Mustang grapplers open season with trio of wins

PCM wrestlers edge Greene County by criteria

OGDEN — Five Mustangs went unbeaten and 17 of their 18 wins came by fall as the PCM wrestling team opened its season with three wins at a quadrangular hosted by Ogden on Tuesday.

PCM dominated Van Meter 66-12, downed the host Bulldogs 48-28 and edged Greene County 40-39 on criteria.

The Mustangs were 18-7 in contested matches on the night. They went 8-0 against Van Meter, 6-3 in the win over Ogden and 4-4 against Greene County.

All eight contested wins against Van Meter came by pin. The Mustangs also had a 3-2 advantage in forfeits.

Hewitt Brinegar opened the dual with a win by forfeit at 150 pounds. Trystin Anderson (175) and Wyatt Wheeler (190) also got forfeit victories and the pins came from Sawyer Bouwkamp (157), Harrison Brinegar (165), Nate Richards (215), Kaden Clark (285), Kaliber Fry (120), Charlie Sitzmann (132), Remington Fry (138) and state-ranked Tucker Wheeler (144).

PCM did not have a forfeit advantage against either Ogden or Greene County.

Hewitt Brinegar, Bouwkamp, Anderson, Clark, Remington Fry and Tucker Wheeler all won by fall, while Richards and Kaliber Fry each took forfeits.

In the win over Greene County, the Mustangs were 4-4 in contested matches and both squads took three forfeits.

Richards, Sitzmann and Tucker Wheeler all won by fall, while Hewitt Brinegar won his match 7-3 at 150. Wyatt Wheeler, Remington Fry and Clark each were handed forfeits.

Tucker Wheeler was 3-0 with three first-period pins. Clark, Richards and Remington Fry were 3-0 with two pins and Hewitt Brinegar also finished 3-0.

Both of Clark’s pins came in the first 45 seconds. Bouwkamp and Sitzmann were 2-1 with two pins and Wyatt Wheeler finished 2-1 with two forfeits. Anderson and Kaliber Fry also won twice.
