Pak leads Newton girls to sixth at LHC golf tournament

Cardinals edge host Dallas Center-Grimes at Beaver Creek Golf Club

GRIMES — Eva Park earned all-conference honors, but the Newton girls’ golf team finished sixth in the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament on Monday.

The Cardinals shot 427 at the par 72 Beaver Creek Golf Club. They edged Dallas Center-Grimes by one stroke.

Indianola cruised to the conference tournament championship with a 372. Norwalk (417), Grinnell (418), Pella (420) and Oskaloosa (424) were separated by seven shots in second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Pak matched her career-best with a 100. She had nine-hole splits of 48-52 and placed 11th overall.

Marin Pettigrew finished 14th with a 103. She registered nine-hole splits of 50-53. Ella Price (110) was 21st overall and Addison Hook (114) and Kalleigh Berndt (career-best 114) had the final counting scores. Addison Van Maanen (121) turned in a non-counting score.

Indianola’s Camryn Overton won the conference title with an 86. She was seven strokes better than runner-up medalist Emerson Lee (93) of Pella.
