Newton police arrest 2 juveniles for allegedly stealing van that crashed near I-80

Both 15-year-olds are being treated for injuries, facing felony charges

Two juvenile males have been arrested and charged with felonies after allegedly breaking into a Newton business and stealing a vehicle early this morning. When officers attempted to pull them over, the boys fled and later crashed near the westbound onramp of Interstate 80.

Both are in custody and are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to a press release from the Newton Police Department, authorities were notified of a burglary to a business in town in which two vehicles were stolen. At about 8:58 a.m., officers were called to the northwest side of town to a report of one of the stolen vehicles being in the area.

Officers searched the area and found the vehicle. But when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled westbound on Highway 6 out of Newton. The vehicle continued on down the highway until it wrecked at the westbound ramp near the 159 mile marker of I-80.

The occupants were identified as two juvenile males, both age 15. Newton News does not release names of juveniles charged with crimes. Both males are charged with second degree theft, a Class D felony, and for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. The juvenile driver is charged with eluding, a Class D felony.
