Newton girls take third at windy Oakland Acres

Pettigrew finishes sixth in conference quadrangular

GRINNELL — Battling not only three Little Hawkeye Conference opponents on Tuesday, the Newton girls’ golf team also went against high wind gusts at Oakland Acres Golf Club.

Marin Pettigrew finished sixth overall and the Cardinals got a career-best round from Addie Ratcliff during the road quadrangular, but Newton finished third in the final standings.

Host Grinnell and Oskaloosa each shot 193 and Newton (202) edged Dallas Center-Grimes (204) for third.

Golfers played the red tees on the back nine of the par 34 course.

Pettigrew’s 47 led the Cardinals and placed her in sixth.

Oskaloosa’s Amelia Meader and Libby Fenton both shot 43s at the top of the individual standings. Grinnell’s Lily Montgomery (44) and Olivia Olson (45) came in third and fourth, respectively. DCG’s Laura Klaessy carded a 46 in fifth.

After Pettigrew for Newton was Ratcliff, who shot a career-best 50. Eva Pak turned in a 52 and Ella Price had a 53 as the final counting score. Addison Hook (55) and Addison Van Maanen (56) carded non-counting scores.
