L-S track teams combine for eight wins at SICL Indoor meet

Smock, Huyser lead Hawks at Grinnell College

GRINNELL — Greenlee Smock and Tatum Huyser each won two individual events and Corder Noun Harder and James Gruver claimed the only victories for the Lynnville-Sully boys track and field team at the South Iowa Cedar League indoor meet at Grinnell College on Tuesday.

The two Hawk teams combined for eight wins with the L-S girls registering six of them.

Smock won the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, Huyser leaped to a win in the high jump and sprinted to victory in the 400 dash and Noun Harder and Gruver also won sprinting events for the Hawk boys.

The SICL indoor meet is an annual event in Grinnell but team points are not scored.

Smock won the 800, but the Hawks were 1-3-4 in the event. Smock’s win was clocked in 2 minutes, 47.43 seconds. Kate Harthoorn finished third in 2:50.07 and Olivia Norrish was fourth in 2:50.24.

Smock ran to a win in the 1,500, too. Her time in that event was 5 minutes, 29.13 seconds.

Huyser began her night with a win in the high jump. Her victorious jump was marked at 4 feet, 10 inches and her teammate Laura Fikse was fifth with a jump of 4-4.

Huyser won the 400 in 1:07.44 and Carsyn McFarland finished second in both the 60 (8.52 seconds) and the 200 (29.73).

The L-S girls were victorious in the 4x800 and distance medley relays and the Hawks finished second in the 4x200.

The 4x800 relay foursome of Kinsley Tice, Harthoorn, Alberts and Norrish ran to a victory in 11:29.99.

In the distance medley, Morgan Jones, Huyser, Elise Alberts and Smock won the race in 4:55.04 and the 4x200 team of Alaina Roberts, Morgan Hay, Jones and McFarland finished second in 2:01.93.

The 4x400 relay team of Brooke Conover, Roberts, Tice and Alberts took fifth in 4:54.33.

Noun Harder and Gruver led the Hawk boys. Noun Harder’s win in the 60 was clocked in 7.28 seconds and Gruver won the 400 in 52.9.

The duo opened and closed the 4x400 relay, too. Noun Harder, Bryce Richards, Caleb Rea and Gruver finished second in the event in 3:47.07.

Rea was second in the high jump (5-10) and fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.73). Kyle Squires placed second in the shot put with a toss of 39-8, Jack Bowlin was third in the long jump with a leap of 17-11 and Zach Morningstar took fourth in the 1,600 in 5:17.28.

The other top-three finish for the L-S boys came in the 4x800 relay. The team of Gentry Walston, Ethan Dunsbergen, Michael Spooner and Morningstar finished third with a time of 9:53.83.

The distance medley relay was fourth. The team of Mitchell Miller, Isaac Ver Ploeg, Connor Deal and Terran Gosselink completed the race in 4:14.14.
