NCMP finishes fourth at Bobcat Invitational

Eekhoff, Lamb guide Cardinals in Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN — Nine swimmers from the Newton-Colfax-Mingo-Pella boys’ swim team finished one point in front of the Waterloo Trohawks at the Bobcat Invitational on Saturday.

The meet featured a normal run of all three relays. But the usual individual races were ran as two-person relays.

The Cardinals’ best finish was second and they scored 31 points to finish fourth. Waterloo scored 30 points in fifth.

Host Marshalltown won the meet with 74 points. The rest of the five-team field included Cedar Rapids Kennedy (53) and Atlantic (39).

NCMP’s best finish came in the 200-yard butterfly relay. The duo of Clay Lamb and Eli Eekhoff finished second with a time of 2 minutes, 9.28 seconds.

Eekhoff and Lamb also teamed up with Mack Copeland and Jonah Brown to place third in the 400 freestyle relay. That foursome hit the wall in 3:58.66.

The other top finish came in the 400 medley relay as the duo of Eekhoff and Brown were third in 4:53.9.

The Cardinals also finished fourth twice and came in fifth six times. The swimmers competing for NCMP on Saturday included Eekhoff, Lamb, Brown, Copeland, Tyler Sterling, Will Mills, Drew Fuller, Kenny Skinner-Havens and Skylar Gilbert-Martinez.
