Baxter girls finish second in tightly-contested ISC track meet

Bolts win 4x800 relay, finish second in five events

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — Four girls track and field teams were separated by just eight points at the Iowa Star Conference meet on Thursday.

And the difference at the top might have very well been the Bolts claiming just one win on the night as Baxter’s girls placed second with 99 points.

The Bolts, who also had five runner-up finishes, were four points back of Collins-Maxwell, which won its second straight ISC girls track title with 103 points.

Don Bosco was third with 98 points followed by North Tama (95) and Dunkerton (61) in the top five. The rest of the 13-team field included Clarksville (53), Riceville (51), Janesville (46), host Meskwaki Settlement School (39), GMG (35), Tripoli (31), Valley Lutheran (8) and Colo-NESCO (6).

The Bolts’ lone win came in the 4x800 relay. The team of Regan Russell, Morgan Ratliff, Kailee Conradi and Elie Tuhn finished the race in 11 minutes, 11.84 seconds.

Tuhn also was second in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs. She finished the 1,500 in 5:25.07 and Regan Russell was sixth in 5:51.6. Tuhn’s time in the 3,000 was 11:45.72 and Conradi finished fifth in 12:27.08.

The Bolts were second in three other events. Bree Buswell was second in the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 1:15.9, Mandee Selover finished second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1 inch and the shuttle hurdle team also was second.

The foursome of Maddie Pierce, Sophie Meyer, Carlee Zahurones and Buswell finished the shuttle hurdle race in 1:16.75.

The Bolts were third in three events. Conradi finished third in the 800 with a season-best time of 2:38.34, Buswell was third in the 100 hurdles in 17.77 and the 4x100 relay team of Pierce, Selover, Maggie Schabilion and Buswell were third in a season-best time of 55.29.
