Myers leads C-M boys to fourth at Baxter Coed Invitational

Baxter’s Heer wins 800-meter run to lead Bolts

BAXTER — Justin Myers won two hurdle races and anchored Colfax-Mingo’s boys track and field team’s 4x400 relay team to a gold medal as the Tigerhawks finished fourth in the Baxter Bolts Coed High School Invitational on Monday.

Colfax-Mingo collected six top-three finishes and scored 85 points. Three schools finished with north of 100 points as South Hardin won the meet with 157. West Marshall was next with 117 and Collins-Maxwell tallied 107 in third.

The rest of the nine-team field included Saydel (73), Colo-NESCO (62), Baxter (53), Ankeny Christian Academy (46) and Gladbrook-Reinbeck (36).

Myers scored 24 of the Tigerhawks’ 85 points. He won the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.1 seconds. It was the first time Myers ran this race in 2021.

Josh Kite gave C-M double points as he was third in 18.33.

Myers also took gold in the 400 hurdles with a career-best time of 59.74.

The third win for the Tigerhawks came in the 4x400 relay. The team of Carter Gibson, A.J. Gibson, Colton Hernandez and Myers won the race in 3 minutes, 45.6 seconds.

Colfax-Mingo’s sprint medley relay team of Hernandez, A.J. Gibson, Zach Steenhoek and Carter Gibson finished second in 1:45.10.

Myers also anchored the shuttle hurdle relay. That foursome included Kite, Hernandez and Conner Wood and they finished third in 1:11.27.

The remaining top-six individual finishes for the Tigerhawks included Grant Alexander’s fifth-place finish in the discus, Seth Johnson’s sixth-place tally in the 100 and Coleman Craig’s sixth-place finish in the 3,200.

Alexander’s best throw was 112 feet, 5 inches. Johnson completed the 100 in 12.81 and Craig’s two-mile time was 12:39.01.

Rory Heer’s 18.5 points led the Bolts. He won the 800 in 2:13.15 and was third in the 400 in 54.92.

The Bolts scored double points in the shot put. Trice Clapper was third with a throw of 40-1 and Nate McMinamen finished fifth with a toss of 39-10.

Cody Damman placed sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:26.51.

Damman and Heer also teamed up with Cody Samson and Ashton Kerwin to finish third in the 4x800 relay. That group had a time of 9:47.41.
