William Hugh Sellers

William “Bill” Hugh Sellers, age 74 of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, November 26th. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00pm at the American Legion in Monroe. A military service will begin promptly at 1:00pm followed by the celebration of life. Memorials may be directed to the Uri Sellers Memorial Foundation or the Monroe American Legion Post 363.

The son of Duane and Wilma (Mullins) Sellers, Bill was born on February 7, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa. Bill graduated from Monroe High School in 1967. Following high school Bill attended Waldorf College and the University of Iowa. He then served in the United States Army fighting in the Vietnam War as a 101st Airborne Infantryman.

On August 15, 1999 he married Mary Carnahan in Monroe, IA. Bill was an over the road truck driver for most of his life and worked at Cargill and Van Ryswyk’s between his trucking careers. Outside of work Bill enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary, spending time with grandkids, being outdoors and always enjoyed being around people. Family and friends will remember Bill for his humor, generosity, ability to make friends with anyone, and his strong opinions. He will be greatly missed.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; son, Caleb (Bobbi) Sellers; stepdaughter, Leigh (Darin) Ward; grandkids, Stella and Iyrie Sellers; Zach and Dillon Dearinger; great grandkids Bryleigh and Zayne Dearinger; Uncle Jerry Sellers; niece Marci (Sam) McIlrath; great-nieces, Reagan and Rayne; and cousins. Preceding Bill in death were his parents, grandparents, son, Uri, brother, Nick, grandson, Tanner, and stepson Ryan.
