Burglaries hit vehicles in PC

Two vehicles stolen, 16 ransacked the morning of Aug. 2

A string of burglaries hit Prairie City Aug. 2 affecting more than 15 residences in the community. Prairie City Police Chief Mike German said between 4 and 5 a.m. vehicles in the area were targeted with items taken.

“We had 16 vehicles throughout town that were gone through and/or ransacked, all were left unlocked,” German said. “Some of the vehicles had items taken from them.”

He reported two vehicles were stolen from Prairie City. Both of the vehicles had the keys left in them at the time and have since been recovered.

“I would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to lock your vehicles and to not leave anything of value in them,” German said. “It is important to remove your keys from your vehicle any time it is left unattended.”

The Prairie City Police Department is asking residents to report any unusual vehicles parked in their neighborhoods within the past few days. To contact the department call Prairie City City Hall at 515-994-2649.
