Donn Archie Eide

Donn Archie Eide, 74, of Newton died on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Military honors will conclude the visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, Iowa, with a lunch and visiting time to follow. Memorials to the Jasper County Senior Center, Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, or the American Legion Post 111 may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Donn, the son of Donald Everett and Darlene (Bossard) Eide, was born on January 19, 1950, in Eldora. He grew up in Radcliffe and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1968. During high school, Donn was a decorated football player and a two-time state qualifier in track. Donn then graduated from Ellsworth Junior College before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. On May 27, 1972, Donn was united in marriage with Debra “Debbie” Lee in Radcliffe. After returning from the service, Donn and Debbie moved to Minnesota where Donn would graduate from Mankato State University with a degree in Construction Management. Donn worked for Judd Brown in Mankato before taking a job as a Foreman for Manatt’s, Inc. and moving to Kellogg, Iowa in 1980. In 1988, they moved to Newton. Donn continued to work for Manatt’s for over 35 years with one of his last projects before retirement being the design of the mix for the Iowa Speedway track.

Donn was recognized by the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa and was a past member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing ping pong. Donn also loved to support his grandchildren in all of their activities.

Donn is survived by his wife, Debbie Eide of Newton; children, Desirée (Jesse) Lee of Kansas City, Missouri, Dustin (Michelle) Eide of North Liberty, and Darin (Meghann) Eide of Newton; 11 grandchildren, Carter, Aiden, Lauren, Tessa, Aspen Jaelynn, Peyten, Landen, Ashlynn, Morgann (Jordan), and Arabella; his mother, Darlene Eide of Radcliffe; brothers, Dale (Ann) Eide of Chariton, Dean (Sarah) Eide of Hubbard, and Daryl (Melanie) Eide of Radcliffe; several nieces and nephews; and all of his ping-pong friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Everett Eide and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
