Myrna Hill

Myrna Hill, 89, of Newton died on Monday, December 4, 2023, at MercyOne Newton. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, at the funeral home. Memorials to the Jasper County Courthouse Lighting Fund may be left at the funeral home.

Myrna, the daughter of Lowell and Rose (Clare) Crook, was born on December 22, 1933 in Newton. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and attended Newton schools, graduating in 1952. Myrna was united in marriage with Harvey Hill in July of 1952. Following Harvey’s passing, Myrna spent the last 40 years living with her daughter, Diana, and son-in-law, Delmar. She worked for the Vernon Company for many years assembling calendars before her retirement. Myrna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a ‘member’ of the local Maid-Rite where she enjoyed spending time.

Myrna is survived by her daughter, Diana (Delmar) Van Wyk of Newton; her grandchildren, Bryan Van Wyk (Sarah), Christopher Wyatt, Jennifer Hill, Lisa Brummel, and Lindsay Sinnott; great-grandchildren, Emma, Derrick, Josh, Chloe, Bryar, Kellan, Hilary, Dylan, C.J., and Ava. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey; and sons, Mark Hill and Russell “Rusty” Hill.
