Janet E. Harger

Janet E. Harger, 83, of Newton died on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Grandview Heights Rehab and Healthcare in Marshalltown. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials in Janet’s name(checks made payable to Frank Harger) may be left at the funeral home.

Janet, the daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Phillips) Parrish, was born on March 13, 1939 in Frackville, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Frackville and graduated from Frackville High School. Shortly after, she moved to Newton, Iowa. On April 7, 1977, Janet was united in marriage with Frank Harger in Newton. Janet worked at Party Time Pizza, Thomberts, and then for 28 years at the Maytag Company, retiring in 2001.

Janet enjoyed genealogy, drawing, and painting, watching birds, and shopping. She was the best grandma and was always cooking, singing, and dancing with her grandkids. Janet also loved cats and there was never a cat that didn’t love her.

Janet is survived by her husband, Frank Harger of Newton; son, Chris West of Newton; grandchildren, Amanda West, Megan (Kyle) Potter, Patrece (Micah) Cope, Joseph Revell, Carley (Kyle) Anderson, and Jace (Alainna) Hackworth; 14 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Grace Mullecker, Kenneth Parrish, and Raymond (Teresa) Parrish, all of Frackville, Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Pauline Cannon and Carmen Hackworth; her granddaughter, Holly Revell; and two great-grandchildren.
