Cheryl Kay Marr

Cheryl Kay Marr (formerly Cheryl Black, née Huggins), 77, of Johnston, Iowa passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 6, 2022 after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She was born in El Paso, Texas on February 13, 1945 to Louis E. Huggins and Betty R. Richards.

Cheryl is survived by her half-brothers: Rusty Huggins and Randy Huggins; three children: Brent Black (Paula), Betsy Dunifer and Sarah Black; six grandchildren: Will, Tanner, Alex, Kasey, Jeremiah, and Sophia; and two great-granddaughters: Elowyn and Vada. She was preceded in death by her parents, and great-granddaughter Emersyn Dunifer.

Cheryl grew up in Des Moines, and raised her children in Newton. She worked at The Fashionette and retired from Maytag in Newton, and most recently worked at Von Maur in West Des Moines. She was an avid animal lover (and they loved her back!), she loved the Iowa State Fair, and country music, but she loved family above all else.

A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 11 a.m., continuing until everyone goes home (or 10 p.m, whichever comes first) on July 16 at the Macrae W.C. shelter at Macrae Park, 2235 SW 11th St, in Des Moines. Bring your favorite Cheryl memories and stories!
