John H. Dungan

John H. Dungan, 85, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

John was born in 1936 and grew up on a rural farm in New Hartford, Iowa. In 1957 he married Rochelle Bienfang at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Newton, Iowa. He served 4 years in the Navy where he was stationed in San Diego, CA. For 25 years he and Rochelle owned and operated Highview Roller Rink in Newton. He was also the transportation supervisor for Newton Community School District for many years. After retirement, he spent his time working at Farver True Value.

John is survived by his wife, Rochelle; son, Mitchell (Robin) Dungan, daughter, Tammy Heyveld; daughter, Jonnelle (Merle Smith) Farver; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Johnny) Anderson, Stacia (Jordan) Vansice, Kayla (Eric) Vanderploeg, Erica (Kevin Kading) Cooper, Kelsey Cooper, and Dungan (Kelsey) Farver and 12 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews which includes a special niece Roxanne (Frank) Chud. John was preceded in death by a son-in-law Galen Heyveld; a brother, Theron; two sisters, Beverly and Judy.

John requested that no formal services or visitation be held at the time of his death, however the family is planning a gathering in the spring to honor his memory.
