James Michael Drew

James Michael “Mick” Drew, 82, of Newton, died Monday, May 10, 2021, at his home. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 14 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday. Memorials in Mick’s name (checks made payable to Jake Drew) may be left at the funeral home.

Mick, the son of Charles and Inez Nadine (Linder) Drew, was born March 22, 1939, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1957. Mick was united in marriage with Penny Rosenberger July 22, 1963, in Newton. They made their home in Newton except for a short time that they lived in Colorado. Mick worked in the factory at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Street Chariots, UAW Local 997 and Retirees Union, the first Christian Church and a local CB club. Mick loved cars and CB radios. He also was a talented singer and enjoyed country music.

Mick is survived by his son, Patrick Michael Drew of Des Moines; grandsons, Jake (Vicki) Drew of Newton and Joshua Drew of Des Moines; his four great-grandchildren, Lucas, Harley, Zachary and Ezekiel; many nieces and nephews; and his cousin, Dave (Pat) Drew of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Penny Drew; brother, Bob Drew; and sister, Karen Simotavich.
