COLFAX — Jason Rhinehart was the meet medalist for Colfax-Mingo’s boys golf team in the season opener on Tuesday. Kira Warrick also was the runner-up medalist on the girls’ side.
But neither Tigerhawk squad could find the win column at Colfax Country Club.
“It wasn’t a bad opening meet for Jason and Kira,” C-M golf coach Mike Underwood said. “Jason made a couple really nice shots or putts when he needed them to get out of trouble. Kira had a nice opening round managing to finish as the runner-up medalist for the first time.”
Rhinehart fired a 40 in his first meet of the season to win by three strokes. The Tigerhawks carded a 217 as a team. Keota won the triangular with a 187 and Sigourney was next with a 192.

Warrick’s runner-up medalist score was a 56. The Tigerhawks shot a 265 as a team but finished behind Sigourney, which carded a 230.
The rest of the scores on the boys’ side for Colfax-Mingo included a 54 by Jake Nichols, a 57 from Cale Duffy, a 66 from Shane Aikin and a 74 from Cavan Magnuson.
Sigourney’s Madi Hornback won medalist honors in the girls’ competition. She carded a 47.
Carley Underwood fired a 68 for the C-M girls and Charlotte Donahue had a 69. Holland Robinette fired a 72 and Brennan Rhone had a 75.
“The wind made it difficult,” Coach Underwood said. “I think nerves were a factor early in the meet as it was the first varsity competition for many. They all seemed to settle in after four or five holes. Our 2-6 golfers on both teams have made significant progress since the start of the season and I think they’ll continue to improve on their scores.”
