An Evening of Music for Little Ones

Monday, June 9, 6 p.m.

Join us for an Evening of Music for Little Ones on June 9 at 6 p.m. on the library lawn. This event is for babies, toddler and preschoolers, and led by elementary music teacher, Rachel Guzman. We will enjoy interactive music with lots of action, scarves, shaky eggs and parachutes! Bring a blanket to sit on. If it is raining, the event will be held in the library meeting room.

Summer Plant Swap

Plant Swap: Thursday, June 12, 5 – 6 p.m.

Plant Drop Off: June 7 – 11

Pick up something green at our summer plant swap! Drop off your extra or unwanted plants at the library June 7 - 11 and pick up a swap ticket for each plant you bring in. Donations may include houseplants, flowers, vegetables, perennials, and annuals. Bring your tickets back on June 12 between 5 - 6 p.m. to exchange them for new plants to take home! Plants must be healthy, rooted in soil, and include identification. Questions? Contact Public Services Librarian, Becca Klein at 641-792-4108.

Jonathan May Magic Show

Friday, June 13, 1 p.m.

Join us at the library for a family magic show with magician, Jonathan May! All ages will enjoy this amazing magic show. No registration or ticket required.

Absolute Science Bubble Workshop

Monday, June 16, 9 a.m. – noon

Join us for an amazing, hands-on bubble workshop for kids of all ages! The event is free to attend, but attendees must pick up a ticket in advance, to reserve their time slot. Tickets will be available for 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. time slots. Tickets are available at the library. This program will take place on the library lawn. This event is sponsored by the Schiller Family Foundation.

Acrylic Paint Along Class

Tuesday, June 17, 5:30 p.m.

Join local artist, Kirsten Warrick, for an acrylic paint-along class at the library! Attendees are encouraged to bring an apron; all other materials will be provided. Registration for library cardholders opens on June 9. Non-cardholders are welcome to register beginning June 11. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register. Ages 18+.

Dinosaur Dimensions

Wednesday, June 18, 6 p.m.

Children of all ages are invited to join us for a dynamic, interactive dinosaur program at the library. Meet a baby Triceratops, Pteranodon, Raptor and T-rex! Tickets will be required and are available at the library.

The Curious Case of the Bipolar Detective

Thursday, June 19, 5:30 p.m.

Join licensed substance abuse counselor and president of The Younger Stamfords of Iowa City, a Sherlock Holmes literary society, Monica Schmidt for an exploration into the clinical world of Sherlock Holmes.

Schmidt will discuss Holmes’s characteristic mood swings throughout the 60 Sherlock Holmes novels and short stories, while also educating about clinical diagnosis of bipolar disorder. This program is free to attend and open to the public. This event is sponsored by Humanities Iowa. A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.
