Director swap for band concert in the park

Former Director of Bands at Newton Community High School, Dan Stecker, will step onto the podium for Newton Municipal Band’s second concert of the summer Thursday, June 12 at Maytag Park.

Director Dan will swap places with director Jim Beerends, who will take Dan’s spot in the trumpet section. For an evening highlight, the two will join forces in the trumpet section for an all time favorite, “Bugler’s Holiday.”

The baton will drop at 7 p.m., as the concert opens with the playing of our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.“ At the mic will be master of ceremonies, Fred Chabot.

Fred Maytag Bowl at Maytag Park, is the perfect setting for outdoor concerts. The audience is invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs, or make use of the benches in front of the bowl and tables at the top of the hill. Most likely, there will also be food trucks at the top of the hill. Make it a complete evening, with supper and wonderful entertainment, provided by Newton’s own municipal band!
