Trick or Treat at the Library!

Oct. 28, 5 – 7 p.m.

Trick-or-treat on the library lawn! Children and their families are invited to visit our trick-or-treat stations on the library lawn for candy, books and other fun treats. This event will take place rain or shine and costumes are encouraged. Trick-or-treating will run from 5 to 7 p.m., while supplies last.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

Oct. 1 – 31

Join our biggest, spookiest, virtual scavenger hunt ever! Just download the GooseChase app on your phone or mobile device and search for game name Newton Public Library Halloween Hunt or enter game code WPKE6K. Find as many of the items on our list as you can while competing with other teams. One lucky team will win a Halloween prize bag. All ages welcome to play along.

Winter Clothing Drive

Nov. 1 – 6

The Newton Public Library is collecting NEW cold weather clothing for children ages 6 to 18. Requested donations must be new and include coats, hats, sweatshirts and socks. Donated clothing will be given to Newton schools, to be distributed to local students in need. Donations will be accepted Nov. 1-6 at the library circulation desk.

Japanese Masks & Folklore

Tuesday, Nov. 2, 5:30 p.m.

Join Tanis Sotelo from the Japan America Society of Iowa as he explores Japanese folklore and iconic characters through traditional and Anime masks. These masks play an important part in Japanese culture and are often found in festivals and theater plays. This program is open to the public and is free to attend. No registration required. This program is designed for all ages and is family-friendly. The program will be held in the library meeting room.

Just for Job-Seekers

Wednesdays, 2 – 5 p.m.

Work on your resume, edit your cover letter or complete an online application during our job-seeker support hours. Contact public services librarian Becca Klein at 641-792-4108 to schedule your appointment. This program will not be held Wednesday, Nov. 24.

November/December Mystery Bag

Wondering what to read next? Check out our monthly mystery bags for adults. Mystery bags have a new theme every month and contain a surprise selection of four to five books and an adult craft. Return the books when you’re done with them; keep the craft. The November/December theme is “Holiday Spirit.” The bags will include a selection of festive and feel-good holiday books. The craft is an Altoid tin diorama ornament. Registration opens Nov. 1. Call the library at 641-792-4108 to register.
