Newton dentist office to provide free care in October

Customers can schedule appointments to receive cleanings, extractions, fillings at no-cost

Free dental care will be provided by a Newton dentist office one day in October.

The Dental Practice, 1919 First Ave. E., is accepting appointments for its Free Dental Care Day held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 1. The longtime dentist office is offering dental checkup and cleaning, tooth extraction or fillings at absolutely no cost.

Ashley Hartgers, who works the business office at The Dental Practice, said the Free Dental Care Day — typically organized through the Iowa Mission of Mercy (IMOM) — is a way to give back to the community.

“We are doing it by appointment. No insurance (is needed). We’re seeing anyone, any patient,” Hartgers told Newton News, adding the announcement was made in late August. “We’re filling up pretty fast already. We’ve got quite a few.”

So far 10 people have made appointments for the eight-hour time block, but Hartgers expects those numbers will increase a fair amount in the next month.

Headed by Dr. Steven G. Rabadeaux and Dr. Jacob Parsons, The Dental Practice has been operating in the Newton community for several decades; the dentist office was founded by Rabadeaux’s father in 1957.

Every year throughout the month of October, the IMOM coordinates multiple free dental care events across the state.
