Mildred M. Mencke Swalwell, 96, of Newton died on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2020, at Newton Village Health Care Center in Newton.

There are no services for Mildred scheduled at this time due to the COVID-19 numbers.
Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Mildred M. Mencke Swalwell, the daughter of William and Lillian Achtemeier Mencke was born on Aug. 9, 1924 in Newton. She graduated from Newton High School in 1942.

On Jan. 17, 1946, Mildred was united in marriage with George H. Swalwell at the Zoar Church in rural Newton. They were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Loretta. Mildred had been a country school teacher and was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Newton and the Jasper County Farm Bureau. Mildred was a kind and gentle soul who loved to travel, cook, collect recipes, garden and chat; but her greatest love of all was her family.
Those left to cherish Mildred's memory are her daughters,Linda (Danny) Stover of Reynoldsburg, Ohio and Loretta "Lori" Wohlgamuth of Andrew, Iowa; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,George in 1987; and son-in-law, Richard “Duke” Wohlgamuth in 2018.
