Mustangs lose to West Marshall, go 1-2 at Pleasantville

STATE CENTER — In their first meeting as conference foes, West Marshall defeated PCM’s volleyball team in four sets during Heart of Iowa Conference action on Oct. 6.

The Mustangs avoided the sweep, but the match ended after the fourth set. West Marshall won the match 25-18, 25-12, 16-25, 25-14.

Bella Stone had 21 assists and seven digs, Celeste Wagaman added nine kills and four aces and Claire Wilson tallied 10 digs, three kills and four aces to lead PCM (12-18 overall, 2-3 in conference play) in the loss.

Jacki Vos put down six kills, Riley Johannes had three kills and four digs and Emma Reed chipped in two kills and four digs.

Chelsea Bird finished with nine digs, Lilli Baird had six digs and Emma Houser added four digs. Riley Hjortshoj put down a pair of kills.

PCM was 58-of-66 in serves, led by Johannes’ 7-of-7. Wilson was 15-of-16 and Bird served 10-of-11.

West Marshall improved to 9-15 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

PCM rallies past Trojans

at Pleasantville tournament

PLEASANTVILLE — PCM played in three-set matches in two of its three contests at the Pleasantville tournament on Oct. 10.

The Mustangs had to rally to beat host Pleasantville 13-21, 21-19, 15-11 and then lost a lead to Earlham as the Cardinals won 14-21, 21-14, 15-7.

PCM also was defeated by Class 1A No. 7 Southeast Warren 21-10, 21-12.

In the win over Pleasantville (9-8), Wagaman led the Mustangs with six kills, four blocks and two digs.

Stone had six assists and three kills, Wilson finished with five digs and two aces and Kassidy Block put down five kills. Bird finished with 10 digs and Johannes added three kills and two digs.

The Mustangs were 42-of-44 in serves, led by Wilson’s 14-of-14. Johannes was 9-of-9.

In the loss to Earlham (6-12), Stone had 14 assists, Wagaman and Block both had five kills and Bird finished with six digs. Houser tallied four digs.

The Mustangs were 36-of-39 in serves with Wilson serving 8-of-8 and Wagaman going 6-of-6.

Bird finished with eight digs and was 7-of-7 in serves, Stone dished out seven assists and Wagaman had five kills in the loss to Southeast Warren (18-0). Baird also had five digs.
