Baxter football pulls away from GMG

GARWIN — Cody Damman accounted for five touchdowns and Baxter’s football team broke open a 20-12 first-quarter lead with a strong finish during a 60-20 road win in 8-man District 5 action on Oct. 2.

Damman threw for 155 yards and two scores and rushed for 135 and three touchdowns to lead the Bolts (2-4 overall, 1-4 in district play).

The Bolts led by eight at halftime but outscored GMG (0-6, 0-5) 14-0 in the second quarter and 20-0 in the third.

GMG won the fourth quarter 8-6.

Jake Travis had the best offensive game of his career with 62 rushing yards and two TDs on six carries and 75 receiving yards and a TD on three catches.

Rory Heer rushed for 101 yards and a TD on 17 carries and had six catches for 41 yards. Kael Johnston had two catches for 31 yards and a TD.

Damman and Nate McMinamen each had seven tackles to lead the defense. Trice Clapper had five tackles and one sack and Heer and Travis each had 4.5 tackles.

The Bolts host Colo-NESCO (2-4, 1-4) for Senior Night at 7 p.m. on Oct. 7 in Baxter.
