COLFAX – Two people were killed in a motor vehicle accident Friday morning near the 9300 block of Highway F48 W in Jasper County.
At approximately 6:59 a.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a car crash with injuries along the Colfax roadway. Law enforcement and emergency services personnel from Colfax and Newton responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, authorities determined a vehicle had left the roadway, entered the south ditch and overturned, the sheriff’s office said in a press release Friday.
One occupant of the vehicle was able to leave the scene and go to a nearby resident to request help. Authorities said this occupant was transported to a Des Moines area hospital by a Colfax ambulance. Their current condition is unknown.
Two other occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the time of the accident and were pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victims will not be released until relatives can be notified.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has requested the help of the Iowa State Patrol for further assistance and said the accident is still currently under investigation.
