Newton Police Department

• Gregory J. Bologna, 34, of Newton, and Tanner S. Auten, 28, of Newton, were both charged with public intoxication at 6 p.m. Thursday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to North 19th Avenue on a call of a suspicious person. Upon arrival, officers found two men with an odor of alcohol and matching the descriptions they were given. Both suspects, Bologna and Auten, reportedly failed sobriety tests and were arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

• Aaron R. Thompson, 38, of Newton, was charged with domestic assault and interference with official acts at 7:15 p.m. Thursday. According to Newton police, officers were sent to the 500 block of First Street South in reference to a fight. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a witness who said two people were fighting inside and each person became bloody as a result. When Thompson became aware the officer entered the home, he walked further inside and tried to hide under a bed, reports state. He also allegedly tried to resist arrest. The victim in the fight told the officer she and Thompson had been drinking while talking about past relationships. Then the victim went to grab the phone and Thompson allegedly grabbed her by the hair, grabbed the phone and smashed it on the ground. The witness also said they saw Thompson on top of the victim choking her when they got there. Thompson was arrested and transported to the Jasper County Jail.
