Newton man runs from police, arrested during traffic stop

Multiple traffic violations led to the arrest

A Newton man driving without a valid license ran from police and was later arrested after being stopped for a broken brake light and other traffic violations.

Musa F. Ezeirig, 25, was driving northbound in the 500 block of East Seventh Street North in a tan BMW SUV at 3 a.m. Monday when a police officer pulled him over for having a broken brake light and having an expired registration.

Ezeirig pulled into a driveway and reportedly stepped out of the vehicle and was told by the officer to get back in his vehicle, according to a police report.

While in his vehicle, Ezeirig looked for his information for an extended period of time and stated his license was not with him but he had his brother’s license, the report states.

When the officer was checking on a name and date of birth that turned up to be false, Ezeirig stepped out of his vehicle and took off running westbound.

When told to stop running, Ezeirig jumped two fences and continued across E. Sixth St. N.

Ezeirig was later apprehended in the 700 block of East Sixth Street North and placed under arrest.

Ezeirig was driving with a barred license, without the correct insurance and expired registration. The vehicle had a sticker from a different vehicle.

He is also on probation for operating while intoxicated from an incident that happened in January.

Ezeirig was charged with interference with official acts, driving with a barred license, fraudulent registration, operation without a registration card or plate and failure to provide proof of financial liability.

Ezeirig posted $1,000 bond.
