Brown’s effort not enough for Mustangs

ROLAND — Prairie City-Monroe senior Austin Brown allowed one hit over six innings against Class 2A No. 8 Roland-Story on Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Norse took advantage of three walks, a hit by pitch and four PCM errors during a 3-2 Heart of Iowa Conference win.

PCM (7-12 overall, 5-6 in the HOIC) finished with nine hits, but the only runs it could muster came in the sixth and seventh innings.

Roland-Story led 3-0 after five frames and held off a late Mustang rally to improve to 17-4 overall and 5-3 in the HOIC.

Junior Braden Phifer had two of PCM’s nine hits, while senior Clay Cooper had one hit and one run, senior Tyler Foster had one hit and one walk and Brown finished with one hit and one RBI.

Brown’s final pitching line including two strikeouts. All three runs he allowed were unearned.
