Members of Cub Scout Pack 354, who are third grade students from Woodrow Wilson and Thomas Jefferson elementary schools, recently picked up trash along the Newton Hike and Bike Trail as part of their work on their conservation badges.

The project took a couple of hours, according to Bear Den Leader Tim Linahon, and the group collected five large garbage bads of trash, a broken chair and old bicycle parts.

“This was a great project for the boys and helped them understand it’s important to give back,” Linahon said. “The Bear Den hopes everyone who uses the bike path will enjoy a cleaner environment and will do their part to keep it clean.”

Linahon noted the Newton Park & Recreation Office suggested the project, which took place on April 16.

“They were very supportive and provided garbage bags and trash grabbers,” he said.
