Gliem leads Baxter girls at BGM Holiday Brawl

Bolt boys can’t find win column in dual tournment

BROOKLYN — Johnelle Gliem placed second and all four Bolts finished in the top six during the BGM Holiday Brawl on Saturday.

The Baxter girls wrestling team scored 41.5 points in ninth. The Bolts were better than Midland (33) and Moravia (28) in the 11-team field.

South Tama County won the tournament with 223.5 points. The rest of the top five included South Winneshiek (141), Sigourney/Keota (134), Louisa-Muscatine (93.5) and Class 1A No. 8 Pekin (91.5). BGM (70), Union Community (56) and Lone Tree (48) completed the field.

Madison Jochems

Gliem was 1-1 at 170 pounds. After receiving a first-round bye, she advanced to the finals with a first-period pin.

Class 2A No. 3 Autumn Elsbury of South Tama County pinned Gliem in the finals.

Madison Jochems took fourth at 130 and Kenzie Wignall (125) and Malayla Hurd (235) were sixth at their weights.

Jochems was 2-2 with a win by pin and a 16-0 victory by technical fall. She was leading 3-2 at the time of the pin.

Wignall was 1-3 at her weight. She opened with a win by fall in the first period.

Kinnick Poage

Baxter boys can’t find win column at BGM Holiday Duals

Kinnick Poage finished 4-1 for the day and Ruger Kincaid and Maddox Peters both won three times, but the Bolts had too many forfeits during an 0-5 day at the BGM Holiday Duals on Saturday.

The Bolts suffered a close 42-30 loss to host BGM but also fell 60-18 to Moravia, 66-15 to Louisa-Muscatine, 72-6 to South Tama County and 75-5 to South Winneshiek.

Baxter was 3-0 in contested matches against BGM, but the Bears had a 7-2 advantage in forfeits. Poage (106) and Kincaid (175) had first-period pins and Peters (190) won by fall with a 10-4 deficit.

Lincoln Russell (113) and Nyle Brown (285) took forfeits for the Bolts. Poage and Kincaid took forfeits in the loss to Moravia and Peters won by fall.

The Mohawks were 2-1 in contested matches and had an 8-2 advantage in forfeits.

Ruger Kincaid

The Bolts were 3-2 in contested matches against Louisa-Muscatine but couldn’t overcome nine forfeit losses. Kincaid (190) and Peters (175) both won by fall and Russell scored a 13-7 win.

The only points for Baxter against South Tama came on a first-period pin by Poage. He also won 16-1 for the only victory against South Winneshiek.

The Bolts were 1-4 in contested matches against STC and South Winneshiek, and Baxter gave up a total of 16 forfeits.
