Eighth-ranked Mustangs rout South Hamilton in return from winter break

Naeve scores 18 off the bench to lead PCM

JEWELL — The PCM girls basketball team scored 60 or more points for the fifth time this season against South Hamilton on Friday night.

The Class 3A No. 8 Mustangs made nine 3-pointers, four players scored in double figures and PCM routed the Hawks 67-39 during Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference play.

The win keeps the Mustangs unbeaten in conference play and sets up a matchup with Roland-Story on Tuesday. The Lady Norse are 6-0 in HOIAC games.

PCM led host South Hamilton 19-10 after one quarter and outscored the Hawks 17-12 in the second, 13-5 in the third and 18-12 in the fourth.

Kyra Naeve led the Mustangs with 18 points off the bench. She added three steals and made 6-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

Libby Winters added 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals, Lila Milani totaled a season-best 12 points and chipped in two assists and three steals and Tori Lindsay posted 10 points, three rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Jorja Teeter contributed four points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals and Kenna Grier registered four points, three rebounds and five assists.

Katelyn VanWyk put in three points and Katelynn Fagg swiped two steals off the bench.

The Mustangs (9-1, 7-0 in the conference) shot 43 percent from the floor, made 9-of-24 from 3 and buried 10-of-18 from the free-throw line. PCM turned the ball over 14 times.

The Mustangs made nine 3s for the second time this season. The 67 points were the second most scored this winter, and PCM reached at least 60 for a fourth straight game.

Isabel Swenson led South Hamilton (3-5, 2-4) with 10 points and Adelyn Trask put in eight off the bench. The Hawks made seven 3s.
