Tigerhawk hoops split road matchup with conference rival BGM

Foglesong, Jay lead Colfax-Mingo against Bears

BROOKLYN — Isabelle Foglesong and Mickey Bucklin both scored in double figures, Mallory Sipma grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds and the Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team edged BGM on Dec. 22.

The Tigerhawks went into the holiday break on a three-game win streak following the 42-38 road win in South Iowa Cedar League play.

Colfax-Mingo is now 2-3 in conference play. The Tigerhawks are 4-4 after starting the season 1-4 and are 4-1 in games decided by single digits.

The visitors led 12-10 after one and 24-17 at halftime, but BGM rallied to take a two-point lead after three. C-M won the final frame 12-4 to secure the victory.

Foglesong led Colfax-Mingo with 15 points, two rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Bucklin posted 10 points and three rebounds, Sipma scored four points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Lydia Hansen chipped in six points and six rebounds.

Dakota Allen totaled seven points and five boards and Katelyn Steenhoek grabbed four rebounds in the win.

The Tigerhawks shot 35 percent from the floor, made 3-of-12 from 3-point range and connected on 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. They turned the ball over 23 times.

BGM fell to 4-4 on the season and 2-4 in SICL play.

BGM 61, Colfax-Mingo 49

BROOKLYN — Wyatt Jay dropped a career high, but the Colfax-Mingo boys basketball team couldn’t overcome the BGM Bears on the road during an SICL matchup on Dec. 22.

The Tigerhawks went into the holiday break with a 61-49 loss to their hosts and fell to 1-4 in conference play.

Jay scored a career-best 21 points and added seven rebounds and Chase Trotter posted eight points and five rebounds.

Izaiah Lewis, Wyatt Thornton and Alex Teed all scored four points and Weston Boehm chipped in three points.

Wyatt Carpenter totaled four rebounds and a career-best seven assists, Jace Lewis chipped in three rebounds, two assists and two steals and Boehm tallied two rebounds and two steals.

Camden Cunningham grabbed three rebounds and Izaiah Lewis and Gage Byal both pulled down two boards.

The Tigerhawks (1-7) shot 45.7 percent from the floor, made 2-of-11 from 3-point range and connected on 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. They turned the ball over 18 times.

Chase Trotter

BGM (2-5, 2-4 in the SICL) shot 46.7 percent from the floor but made three more 3s and nine more free throws.

The Bears connected on 5-of-13 from deep and sunk 14-of-18 from the foul line and committed 13 turnovers.

Beau Burns led BGM with 20 points and Maddox Rhoads added 12.
