Millang leads PCM girls to fourth at Raccoon River Wrestling ADM Invitational

Seven Mustangs finish sixth or better in final tournament before winter break

ADEL — The PCM girls wrestling team participated in a tournament hosted by the No. 1 team in Class 2A on Dec. 20.

The field also featured a talented and deep Carlisle squad, and the Mustangs placed fourth in the 11-team field at ADM High School.

Class 2A No. 1 Raccoon River-Northwest won its home tournament with 291 points. The RRNW squad featured 34 wrestlers from ADM, Waukee and Van Meter.

Class 2A Carlisle was second with its 19 wrestlers. The Wildcats scored 210.5 points and Pleasantville scored 83 points with its five wrestlers.

PCM entered 12 wrestlers in the tournament and placed fourth with 77 points. The Mustangs had more wrestlers in the field than all but three programs.

Atlantic (71.5) and DMPS (71.5) tied for fifth and the rest of the 11-team field included Ankeny (66.5), North Metro (66), Winterset (64), Interstate 35 (54), Earlham (25) and Moravia (25).

Seven of the 12 Mustangs finished sixth or better at their weights. Hadley Millang led the way in second at 135 pounds, while Emma Beyer (170) and Lili Birkenholtz (190) placed fourth, Allie Minteer (115) and Emilyn Davis (235) took fifth and Ryan DeVore (105) and Addison Pitman (190) were sixth.

Millang (14-7) was 3-1 with the three pins. She needed only 74 seconds to win her first two matches and lost by fall in the finals.

Birkenholtz was 2-3 with two first-period pins at 190. One of those wins came against Pitman.

Emilyn Davis

Beyer (13-4) won her first match of the day by fall but went 1-2 for the tournament. Davis was 2-2 with a win by pin and a win by forfeit.

Minteer (7-4) matched Millang’s 3-1 day at 115. She lost her first match before winning three straight by pin. Two of those falls came in the first period.

Courtney Cole (120), Holly Wood (140), Macie Kain (145), Carly Wilkerson (155) and Scarlett Mosher (235) also competed for the Mustangs.
