NORTHWOOD — Three Bolts competed against a pair of out of state teams, and the Baxter boys wrestling team finished eighth at the Ron Dodd Viking Invitational on Saturday.
Kinnick Poage was the runner-up at 113 pounds, Ruger Kincaid placed third at his weight and the Bolts scored 48 points in the 10-team field.

The two out-of-state teams finished at the top of the standings. Dover-Eyota (215) edged Westfield (208) for the tournament title. Highland (179), Central Springs (152.5) and host Northwood-Kensett (113) completed the top five.
Poage’s second-place finish included a 4-1 day with four pins. He lost his first match by fall while leading 3-2. All four pins lasted 50 seconds of less and he’s now 12-2 this season.
Kincaid (8-3) was third at 190. He lost his opening-round match 20-9 but rebounded with three straight pins. His first two wins came in the first period and his final pin came with him leading 14-1.
Lincoln Russell also competed for the Bolts and was fifth at 120. He was 2-2 with two pins. One of his losses was 9-6.

Bolts finish seventh at Montezuma Invitational
MONTEZUMA — Poage, Kincaid and Maddox Peters combined to finish 7-3 on the mat and the Bolt trio placed in the top three at the Montezuma Invitational on Dec. 12.
Bondurant-Farrar won the tournament title with 305.5 points. The Norwalk junior varsity was second with 155 and the rest of the nine-team field included Montezuma (146), Cedar Rapids Washington (114), Knoxville (108.5), North Tama (88.5), Baxter (64), English Valleys (44) and Pekin.
Poage was second at 106 after going 2-1. His two wins by pin lasted only 1:50.
Peters (7-2) placed second at 175. He was 2-1 with two pins and he was on the mat for less than 3 minutes in those matches.
Kincaid was 3-1 with three pins at 215. He won his first match by fall in 42 seconds. His second pin came in the first period, too, and he won a third match by fall while trailing 4-2.

Kincaid’s only loss came against Class 1A No. 2 Braxton Plants of Montezuma.
Sam Wilhelm placed fourth and was 1-2 at 190. He started and ended his day with losses by fall but won 10-8 in between. Russell medically forfeited his two matches at 120.
