COLFAX — A big third quarter powered the Colfax-Mingo boys basketball team to its first win of the season on Tuesday.
The Tigerhawks were tied with Belle Plaine at halftime but nearly doubled up the Plainsmen in the third during a 55-49 home win.
Both teams scored 11 points in each of the first two quarters of the South Iowa Cedar League game and Belle Plaine won the fourth 19-18. But Colfax-Mingo snapped a seven-game skid in the series with a 15-8 advantage in the third.

Wyatt Carpenter led the Tigerhawks with a career-best 16 points and added six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jace Lewis posted 13 points with five rebounds and two assists, Chase Trotter chipped in eight points, three rebounds and three steals and Izaiah Lewis totaled eight points and six boards.
Wyatt Jay contributed six points, seven rebounds and two assists, Wyatt Thornton had four rebounds and four steals and Alex Teed registered three rebounds and three steals.
The Tigerhawks (1-6, 1-3 in the SICL) shot 34.5 percent from the floor, made 3-of-10 from 3-point range and connected on 14-of-29 from the free-throw line. Colfax-Mingo turned the ball over 20 times.
Belle Plaine shot 37.5 percent from the floor, connected on 2-of-7 from 3 and sunk 11-of-19 from the foul line. The Plainsmen (0-8, 0-6) committed 19 turnovers.
Colfax-Mingo overcame 31 points, eight rebounds and five steals from Belle Plaine’s Mason Walter.
Twin Cedars 75, Colfax-Mingo 56
BUSSEY — A career-high 24 points from Jace Lewis and a career-best 10 rebounds by Izaiah Lewis were not enough for Colfax-Mingo on Friday.
The Tigerhawks were plagued by 19 turnovers and Twin Cedars dominated the third quarter during its 75-56 home win in non-conference action.

Twin Cedars led 22-17 after one but C-M trailed by two at halftime. The Sabers won the third 24-8 and edged the Tigerhawks 12-11 in the fourth.
Jace Lewis grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists to go along with his career-best 24 points. He was 7-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Izaiah Lewis posted seven points and a career-high 10 boards, Carpenter registered seven points, three rebounds and four assists and Trotter posted six points and five boards.
Gage Byal scored three points, grabbed four boards and delivered a career-best seven assists, Jay added five points, three rebounds and two assists and Teed swiped three steals.
The Tigerhawks shot 35 percent from the floor, made 1-of-7 from 3 and buried 13-of-29 from the foul line. They dished out 19 assists on 21 field goals.
Holden Roberts led the Sabers (3-3) with 22 points and 12 rebounds. He was 5-of-7 from 3 and 5-of-8 from the foul line.
Kaden Kloster put in 23 points and Tobin McDanel grabbed eight rebounds. Kloster was 8-of-13 from the foul line.
Twin Cedars shot 35 percent from the floor, made 8-of-28 from 3 and connected on 21-of-38 from the foul line. The Sabers turned the ball over 13 times and out-rebounded the Tigerhawks 40-34.
GMG 49, Colfax-Mingo 38
COLFAX — Big nights from Jace Lewis and Jay led the Tigerhawks against GMG on Monday, but Colfax-Mingo started slow and couldn’t recover during a 49-38 non-conference home loss.
Both teams had similar field goal percentages, but the Wolverines made four more shots from long range.
Jace Lewis posted 14 points and four rebounds and Jay added 13 points and three boards to lead the Tigerhawks.

Trotter contributed three points, six rebounds and two steals, Carpenter pitched in four points and four boards and Izaiah Lewis chipped in three rebounds and four assists.
Camden Cunningham, Thornton and Teed all grabbed two rebounds.
The Tigerhawks shot 36.4 percent from the floor, made 2-of-7 from 3 and connected on 4-of-8 from the line. They turned the ball over 18 times.
GMG got 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals from Rider Kupka. The Wolverines (4-3) made 6-of-18 from 3, buried 5-of-7 from the line and turned the ball over 16 times.
