PELLA — Led by a pair of runner-up finishes, the Newton boys wrestling team placed eighth at the Bill Van Horn Invitational on Saturday.
The Cardinals had the fewest number of wrestlers among teams which finished in the top 10 but still finished 12 points back of fifth place and Class 1A No. 5 North Mahaska. The Warhawks scored 135 points with 14 wrestlers.

Council Bluffs Lincoln won the tournament title with 178.5 points. The rest of the top five included Boone (158.5), Marshalltown (157.5) and Oskaloosa (140.5).
Cedar Rapids Xavier (132.5), Pella (129.5), Newton (124), Ottumwa (100.5) and Mason City (91.5) completed the top 10 in the 16-team field. South Tama County trailed Mason City by .5 points in 11th.
Class 3A No. 8 Kent Montgomery was second at 120 pounds. He was 3-1 with two pins and one technical fall. His only loss came to Van Meter’s Dylan Williamson, who is ranked No. 1 in 2A at 126.
Class 3A No. 10 Nick Milburn (215) also took second and finished 3-1 at his weight. All three wins scored bonus points, and his lone loss came in the finals to 3A No. 6 Parker Jordan of Oskaloosa.

Milburn lost to Jordan 4-0 and gave up all four points in the second period. His wins were a first-period pin, a 16-0 technical fall and a 10-2 major decision.
Coleby Revell (285) and Aiden Robson (150) placed third at their weights, while Lane Rozendaal (175) was fourth, Abel Aldama (126) took fifth and Zander Robson (132) was sixth.
Coleby Revell was 3-1 with two pins over Pella’s Jacob Warner, who Revell lost to in the dual against the Dutch on Thursday.
Revell also downed Jaxson Hinkle of Marshalltown, 9-6, in SV-1. He tied that match with a reversal with 22 seconds left in the third period and then scored the winning takedown in overtime with 18 seconds to go.

Revell’s only loss was by fall to 3A No. 12 Regan Roberts of Knoxville. Aiden Robson was 4-1 with three pins at 150. He lost his first match 10-3 then won twice by fall in the first period. He also won by medical forfeit and ended his day with another pin.
Rozendaal was fourth at 175 after going 3-2 with two pins and one technical fall. He lost by fall with the match tied at 3-all in the semifinals.
Aldama was 3-2 at 126. After losing 16-0 in the opener, he scored back-to-back wins by pin and then ended his day with a 21-4 victory.
Zander Robson won once by first-period pin and then took a medical forfeit. His losses were 22-6, 11-5 and 20-2.

PELLA — The Cardinals were a few competitive losses away from a much closer dual against Pella on Thursday.
Newton finished 4-9 in contested matches and took the only forfeit of the dual during a 45-27 road loss to the Dutch.
Ronald Oldham took the forfeit at 120, Montgomery and Aiden Robson both won by fall in the first period and Rozendaal (175) and Milburn (215) scored bonus points at their weights.
Rozendaal won 19-3 and Milburn posted a 10-2 win. Pella registered five pins, and close wins at 132 and 285 helped secure the dual win.
Aldama lost his match 7-5 at 132 and Warner edged Revell 2-1 at heavyweight.
