Newton boys dropped by Norwalk, Carlisle at road wrestling quadrangular

NORWALK — Five Cardinals finished 2-0 for the night and Kent Montgomery stayed unbeaten on the season, but the Newton boys wrestling team dropped a pair of duals on Tuesday.

The Cardinals were 13-16 in contested matches against Norwalk and Carlisle. The Warriors downed Newton 48-30 and Carlisle handed the Cardinals a 44-28 defeat.

Montgomery won both of his matches by fall at 120 pounds. The Cardinals were 5-8 in contested matches against Norwalk, and the Warriors accepted the only forfeit.

Montgomery, who is ranked No. 8 in 3A at 120, needed 50 seconds to score his pin, while Abel Aldama (126), Lane Rozendaal (175), Nick Milburn (215) and Coleby Revell (285) also won by fall at their weights.

Revell’s match lasted 16 seconds and Rozendaal’s pin came in the first period.

While all five wins for Newton came by pin, Norwalk posted four pins and three technical fall victories.

Carlisle was 8-6 in contested matches against Newton. The Wildcats totaled six pins and one technical fall. Newton had three pins and two major decisions.

Montgomery, Revell and Aiden Robson (150) all won by fall in the first period, Milburn, who is ranked No. 10 in 3A at 215, won his match 13-2 and Aldama edged his opponent, 11-9.

Rozendaal did not wrestle Class 3A No. 2 Jaxon Miller of Carlisle at 175 but bumped up to 190 and defeated 3A No. 11 Reichen Lopez, 9-3.

Montgomery improved to 9-0 with eight pins and one technical fall this season. Rozendaal is 8-1 with five pins, Aldama and Revell are now 7-2 and Milburn improved to 6-2.

Notes: Norwalk’s two ranked wrestlers — 3A No. 2 Victor Esparza (190) and 3A No. 11 Asaiah Martinez-Ruiz (132) both pinned their Newton opponents in their matches.
