SULLY — Three Hawks finished 3-0, but the Lynnville-Sully wrestling team couldn’t find the win column on Tuesday.
The Hawks were 10-8 in contested matches but fell short in three duals because they gave up 20 total forfeits.
PCM accepted six forfeits but finished 2-4 in contested matches in its 48-19 win over Lynnville-Sully. The Hawks also lost 60-17 to Albia and 60-18 to Class 1A No. 15 Iowa Valley.

The Hawks were 3-3 in contested matches against both Albia and Iowa Valley. They gave up seven forfeits to both Albia and Iowa Valley and there were five double forfeits in all.
Class 1A No. 4 Matthew Mintle was 3-0 with one pin, one technical fall and one major decision at 138. His major decision was a 13-4 win over PCM’s Kaliber Fry, who qualified for the state tournament last season.
Burt Johnson (144) and Ben Squires (285) both posted first-period pins.
In the loss to Iowa Valley, Mintle, Johnson and Squires all won by fall, and Johnson and Wyatt Mathis (175) won by pin against PCM. Squires also won his match 6-0 over Eli McGriff.
Hawks finish eighth at Bill Rex Invitational
PEKIN — Five of the seven Hawks who competed in the Bill Rex Invitational on Dec. 6 placed at least fifth and Kimball Elliott and Squires both won their brackets to help Lynnville-Sully place eighth as a team.
The Hawks scored 96 points in a tournament hosted by Pekin. Class 1A No. 5 North Mahaska won the tournament title with 206.5 points. The rest of the top five included Albia (173), Montezuma (149), Chariton (123) and Wayne Community (110).
Elliott won the championship at 132 after finishing 3-0 with a pair of technical falls and a win by fall.
Squires won all three of his matches by fall at 285. His first two pins came in 47 and 12 seconds and he was trailing 3-2 before rallying to win by pin in the finals.

Johnson placed fourth at 144 and Graysen Lecompte (120) and Mathis (175) were fifth at their weights.
Johnson was 2-2 with two pins, Lecompte was 0-2 and Mathis finished 3-2 with three pins and two that lasted 33 seconds or less. One of Johnson’s pins came with him trailing 12-10.
Hudson Squires also competed at 285 and was 1-2 with one win by pin. Asher Schechinger won twice by fall and was 2-2 at 165.
