KEOTA — A slow start plagued the Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team on Tuesday night.

The Tigerhawks, playing without one of their starting guards, played even with Keota for the final three frames, but an eight-point deficit after the first quarter was too much to overcome during a 36-28 loss to the host Eagles.

Colfax-Mingo trailed 14-6 after the first quarter of the South Iowa Cedar League contest. Both teams scored 22 points the rest of the way.

Izaiah Lewis

Isabelle Foglesong led the Tigerhawks (1-4, 0-3 in the conference) with nine points and five rebounds and Mallory Sipma posted four points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Katelyn Steenhoek contributed five points and five rebounds in her first start of the season. Lydia Hansen totaled four points and six rebounds off the bench and Dakota Allen tallied four points and two boards.

The Tigerhawks were missing sophomore starter Blain Houseman due to a foot injury. She is out until at least the winter break.

Colfax-Mingo shot 22.2 percent from the floor, made 2-of-13 from 3-point range and connected on 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.

The Tigerhawks were out-rebounded 43-25. Both teams turned the ball over 20 times.

Keota (6-0, 4-0) defeated the Tigerhawks for a fourth straight time. The Eagles were led by Carmeron Haifley, who scored a game-high 16 points. Kennedy Jackson and Karley Greiner grabbed 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.

Keota shot 24 percent from the floor, made 4-of-19 from 3 and made 6-of-12 from the foul line.

BOYS

Keota 51, Colfax-Mingo 30

The C-M boys outscored Keota in the second half, but a slow start plagued the Tigerhawks during a 51-30 road loss on Tuesday night.

The Eagles led 13-2 after one and outscored C-M 19-7 in the second. The Tigerhawks won the second half 21-19, but it wasn’t enough during SICL action.
