Poage wins bracket, two other Bolts place second at Jeremy Fulk Classic

NEW LONDON — Kinnick Poage won his 113-pound bracket, Ruger Kincaid and Maddox Peters both were second at theirs but the short-handed Baxter boys wrestling team placed 10th out of 11 teams at the Jeremy Fulk Classic on Dec. 6.

The Bolts scored 48 points in 10th. Ottumwa won the tournament with 195.5 points. Fort Madison (176), Cedar Rapids Washington (152), Burlington (114.5) and Iowa City High (110.5) completed the top five.

Maddox Peters

Poage was 3-0 at 113. He won a four-person bracket with a first-period pin, a 12-1 major decision and a 7-6 victory.

Kincaid and Peters were 2-1 and placed second at 165 and 175, respectively.

Kincaid scored a 30-second pin and won 5-0. His loss was 16-5. Peters posted a first-period pin and a second-period pin but also lost by fall.

Miles McCord also competed at 190 but went 0-2 with two losses by fall.

Baxter girls face tough competition at Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Johnelle Gliem won three times and finished sixth, but the Baxter girls wrestling team faced its toughest competition of the season so far at the Williamsburg Invitational on Dec. 8.

The Bolts scored 17 points in 25th place. South Tama County won the tournament with 200.5 points. The rest of the top five featured Iowa City Liberty (165.5), Williamsburg (133.5), East Buchanan (130) and Mount Vernon (112.5).

Gliem won twice by fall and once by medical forfeit at 170. One of her losses came against Class 2A No. 1 Autumn Elsbury of South Tama.

The only other win for the Bolts came from Madison Jochems at 130. She was 1-2 with a win by fall, but Kenzie Wignall (125) and Malayla Hurd (235) each went 0-2.
