C-M girls score three dual wins at Wayne, down Nevada at BGM

CORYDON — Four Tigerhawks went 4-0, two more won three times and the Colfax-Mingo girls wrestling team claimed 75 percent of its duals during a road event on Dec. 4.

The Tigerhawks cruised past host Wayne, edged Central Decatur and West Central Valley and fell to Knoxville despite an advantage in contested matches.

Colfax-Mingo was 9-8 in the 17 contested matches but posted a 36-12 win over Wayne, downed Central Decatur and West Central Valley 36-30 and lost 39-30 to Knoxville.

The Tigerhawks lost the only contested match against Wayne but held a 6-1 advantage in forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo was 4-2 in contested matches against Central Decatur, but the Cardinals took one extra forfeit in the matchup. Brianna Freerksen (125), Londyn Alanis (140), Isabella Cushatt (145) and Emmalyn Buchman (235) all won by fall to lead the Tigerhawks.

Class 1A No. 10 Kennedy Phillips (190) got C-M’s only contested win against West Central Valley, but the Tigerhawks had a 5-3 advantage in forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo was 4-3 in contested matches in the loss to Knoxville. The Tigerhawks gave up four of the five forfeits though.

Freerksen, Alanis (145), Cushatt (155) and Lily Anderson (140) all won by fall.

Freerksen, Alanis and Cushatt all went 4-0 with two pins and Phillips was 4-0 with three forfeits.

Anderson and Buchman finished 3-1 with two forfeits. Buchman’s only loss was a 6-0 defeat to Class 2A No. 9 Mariah Ripperger of Knoxville.

C-M loses two close duals in home triangular

COLFAX — The Tigerhawks couldn’t find the win column against a pair of 2A programs on Dec. 2 despite holding an advantage in contested wins.

Colfax-Mingo six of the seven forfeits on the night and lost 42-39 to Marshalltown and 37-36 to Grinnell.

The Tigerhawks were 7-3 in contested matches against the Bobcats and 5-4 in the dual against the Tigers.

Freerksen (125), Cushatt (145), Phillips (190), Buchman (235), Ella Snyder (130) and Lily Brenner (135) all won by fall, while Alanis (140) scored a 6-0 win by decision in the loss to Marshalltown.

All four forfeits were taken by the Bobcats, which allowed them to sneak by for the win.

There were two double forfeits in C-M’s dual against Grinnell, but the Tigers held a 2-1 advantage in forfeit victories. That helped the visitors win by criteria.

Buchman accepted the only forfeit for C-M and Freerksen, Alanis, Cushatt, Phillips and Callie Rathje (110) all won by fall.

Freerksen, Cushatt and Phillips each finished 2-0 with two pins, Alanis and Buchman were 2-0 and Snyder, Brenner and Rathje each claimed one contested victory.

Tigerhawks face toughest challenge yet at Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — Five Tigerhawks competed in the Williamsburg Invitational on Dec. 8. And the toughest tournament the team has participated in so far resulted six wins and a third-place finish for Buchman.

Colfax-Mingo tied for 20th place with 29 points. South Tama County won the tournament with 200.5 points. Iowa City Liberty (165.5), Williamsburg (133.5), East Buchanan (130) and Mount Vernon (112.5) completed the top five.

Buchman faced three ranked wrestlers at 235 and finished 2-1. She defeated 1A No. 8 Josie Panos of Mount Vernon, 2-1, and pinned 1A No. 9 Lainee Waggener of CPU. Her lone loss came by fall against 2A No. 5 Delilah Subsin of Ottumwa.

No other Tigerhawk placed in the tournament, but Alanis was 2-2 with two pins at 140. Freerksen (125) and Cushatt (145) both claimed one win and Snyder was 0-2 at 130.

Freerksen won by fall over Baxter’s Kenzie Wignall and one of her losses came in overtime.

Cushatt scored a first-period pin and lost twice by fall.

C-M doubles up Nevada at BGM

BROOKLYN — A dominating effort on the mat pushed Colfax-Mingo to a win over Nevada during a dual tournament hosted by BGM on Dec. 6.

The Tigerhawks also had an advantage in contested wins against BCLUW/SH but too many forfeits prevented them from winning a second dual.

They finished the day 1-3, defeating Nevada 48-24. The losses were 42-33 to BCLUW/SH, 40-29 against BGM and 57-18 against Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

The Tigerhawks were 5-1 in contested matches against Nevada and it was 3-3 in forfeits. There were double forfeits at 100 and 130.

Freerksen (125), Snyder (135), Alanis (140), Cushatt (145) and Buchman (235) all won by fall. Karoixa Snyder (120), Audas (170) and Phillips (190) accepted forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo was 4-3 in contested wins against BCLUW/SH, but the Tigerhawks took two fewer forfeits. There was a double forfeit at 105.

Ella Snyder, Cushatt and Buchman all won by fall and Alanis won her match 9-5. Karoixa Snyder and Freerksen both took forfeits.

In the loss to BGM, C-M was 1-4 in contested matches but took four of the seven forfeits. There were double forfeits at 100 and 155.

Ella Snyder won her match 15-0 at 135 and Cushatt, Buchman, Callie Rathje (110) and Kaydence Andersen (190) took forfeits at their weights.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Colfax-Mingo both forfeited 100 in their dual. The Tigerhawks were 2-6 in contested matches as Ella Snyder and Cushatt both won by fall. Buchman took C-M’s lone forfeit at 235.

Ella Snyder was 4-0 for the day with three pins and one technical fall, Cushatt was 4-0 with three pins and Buchman finished 4-0 with two pins and two forfeits.

Freerksen, Alanis and Karoixa Snyder all were 2-2 with Snyder’s wins both coming by forfeit.
