Lynnville-Sully girls stay unbeaten after rout of Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE — Holding its opponent to single digits in all four quarters and dominating the boards propelled the Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team to an easy win over Belle Plaine on Friday.

The Class 1A No. 6 Hawks stayed unbeaten on the season following a 68-15 road victory in South Iowa Cedar League play.

“The girls came out and set the tempo with our defense and got us rolling on offense,” L-S head girls basketball coach Jerry Hulsing said. “If we look for an area to improve in, it would be in our defensive communication.”

Lynnville-Sully (6-0, 4-0 in the SICL) led 25-7 after one quarter, and the Hawks held the Lady Plainsmen to eight points the rest of the way.

Isabelle Vos led the visitors with 15 points, 10 rebounds and two assists off the bench.

Breah Lowry chipped in 12 points, three assists and six steals, Kate Harthoorn totaled nine points, three rebounds and four assists and Tatum Huyser contributed eight points and five boards.

Aubrey Harthoorn registered five points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals off the bench, Brooke Harthoorn posted seven points and two boards and Brilynn Tice posted four points and seven rebounds.

Ava Brummel grabbed four rebounds and delivered three assists, Emma Parkinson scored five points off the bench and reserve Mandeesa Vos pulled down two rebounds.

The Hawks shot 47.7 percent from the floor, made 5-of-11 from 3 and buried 13-of-22 from the free-throw line.

Lynnville-Sully turned the ball over eight times and out-rebounded Belle Plaine 42-15.

Jade Dahlquist led the Lady Plainsmen (1-5, 0-4) with eight points and four rebounds. Belle Plaine shot 21.4 percent from the floor, made 2-of-8 from the foul line and turned the ball over 22 times.
