First-quarter blitz powers L-S boys to road win over Belle Plaine

Hawks use balanced scoring to down host Plainsmen

Cameyon James

BELLE PLAINE — A 34-point first quarter got the Lynnville-Sully boys basketball team off to a good start on Friday, and the Hawks finished the deal against Belle Plaine.

L-S won the South Iowa Cedar League game 74-23 after making eight 3-pointers and turning the ball over only nine times.

“The guys set the tone with their defensive intensity in the first quarter,” L-S head boys basketball coach Nick Harthoorn said. “Deflections and turnovers led to some quality looks on offense. The boys did a good job of pushing the pace while taking care of the basketball.”

Sawyer Veldhuizen

The Hawks led 34-4 after one quarter and outscored the Plainsmen 30-9 in the second and third. Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth.

Cameyon James led the Hawks with 16 points and nine rebounds off the bench. He was 8-of-10 from the floor and leads L-S at 13 points per game this season.

The Hawks (4-0, 4-0 in the SICL) got plenty of production from their bench besides Cameyon James.
