SULLY — The Lynnville-Sully boys basketball team has seven players averaging at least 6.3 points per game and three are over 10.
That kind of production showed on Tuesday during the Hawks’ home win over Sigourney.
Four players scored in double figures, Karson Van Maanen had the best game of his prep career so far and the Hawks downed the Savages 62-51 during South Iowa Cedar League play.

“It was a hard fought game.” L-S head boys basketball coach Nick Harthoorn said. “I liked the mental toughness that our guys demonstrated in this game. We found a way to play some of our best basketball late in the third quarter and into the fourth.”
The Hawks led 13-10 after one but only took a four-point lead into the fourth. L-S turned away its visitors with a 14-7 advantage in the final frame.
It was Lynnville-Sully’s seventh straight win over Sigourney. The Hawks won the game despite making only 2-of-11 from 3-point range and 12-of-23 from the free-throw line.
Will Van Vark led the Hawks (3-0, 3-0 in the SICL) with 13 points, two rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Van Maanen finished with a career-best 10 points and added three rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Dawson James scored a team-high 14 points and totaled two rebounds and two assists, Sawyer Veldhuizen pitched in 10 points and three rebounds and Cameyon James registered nine points and a career-best 11 rebounds.
Jack Bowlin totaled four points and eight boards, Connor Deal grabbed three rebounds and Trace Carlson contributed two rebounds.
The Hawks shot 44.4 percent from the floor, turned the ball over 11 times and out-rebounded the Savages 39-19.
Sigourney (3-1, 2-1) was led by John Berg, who totaled 17 points, five rebounds and four steals. Brayden Wood posted 13 points and seven boards and Solon Yates chipped in 15 points.
The Savages shot 43.5 percent from the floor, connected on 3-of-9 from the foul line and turned the ball over 17 times. They stayed within striking distance partly because they made 8-of-21 from 3.
