MARSHALLTOWN — Four players scored seven points, Addy Cibula grabbed another 10 rebounds and the Newton girls basketball team led Marshalltown after three quarters on Thursday.
But the Bobcats made four more 3-pointers and dominated the fourth quarter during a 40-32 come-from-behind non-conference win.
The Cardinals struggled from the floor, making 1-of-7 from 3 and shooting 26 percent overall. Newton lost by eight and missed nine free throws.

Both teams turned the ball over 16 times and each team grabbed 33 rebounds.
Cibula led the Cardinals (2-2) with seven points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. White contributed seven points and eight boards, Payton Carkhuff totaled seven points, two rebounds and four steals and Camryn Klein chipped in seven points, four rebounds and three steals.
Sophia Coady grabbed two rebounds, dished out four assists and swiped two steals, Brooke Garvis tallied four points and four rebounds and Emerson Ray collected three boards.
It was Marshalltown’s first win over Newton since Dec. 6, 2018. The victory snapped Newton’s six-game winning streak in the series.
Jorja Janssen led the Bobcats (4-0) with 10 points and 10 boards and Frankie Long totaled eight points and eight rebounds.
Marshalltown shot 24 percent from the floor, made 5-of-25 from 3 and buried 11-of-16 from the charity stripe.
Indianola 46, Newton 29
INDIANOLA — The Cardinals went into the locker room at halftime down only two points, but Indianola pulled away for good with a dominating third quarter on Friday.
Newton suffered its 19th straight loss to the Indians after the hosts outscored the Cardinals 21-8 in the third and went on to win 46-29 in then Little Hawkeye Conference opener.

The Cardinals were outscored by only four points in the other three quarters but were plagued by 27 turnovers.
Cibula turned in another double-double in the loss. She posted 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Newton.
Coady added five points and three boards, Garvis totaled four points and three rebounds and Carkhuff chipped in three assists and three steals.
Klein registered three rebounds and two assists, Emerson Ray grabbed three boards and the Cardinals (0-1 in the conference) shot 35 percent from the floor and made 1-of-7 from 3.
Lauren Olson led Indianola (3-1, 1-0 in the LHC) with 16 points, seven boards and four steals. The Indians shot 29 percent from the floor, made 5-of-20 from 3 and buried 11-of-19 from the foul line.
Indianola turned the ball over 13 times and Newton made 4-of-10 from the charity stripe.
