PCM girls bounce back, rout West Marshall to open HOIAC play

Class 3A No. 8 Mustangs make 11 treys in win over Trojans

MONROE — Four Mustangs scored at least nine points and the PCM girls basketball team buried 11 3-pointers during its rout of West Marshall on Tuesday.

The Class 3A No. 6 Mustangs reached double digits in all four quarters, and the defense limited the Trojans to single digits in three of the four frames during a 54-20 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference win.

It was the fifth straight win in the series for PCM, which improved to 8-6 against the Trojans since 2006.

Libby Winters led the Mustangs (2-1, 1-0 in the conference) with 11 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and four steals and Tori Lindsay chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Lindsay was 4-of-9 from 3 and Kenna Grier made 4-of-7 from deep. Grier scored a career-high 12 points and grabbed three boards.

Kyra Naeve totaled nine points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals, Jorja Teeter posted three points, six boards, three assists and two steals and Lila Milani put in five points and swiped two steals.

Holly Wood grabbed three rebounds and Katelyn Van Wyk scored her first varsity points.

PCM shot 35.7 percent from the floor, made 11-of-29 from 3 and connected on 3-of-7 from the foul line. The Mustangs turned the ball over only 14 times.

Kinley Johnston scored 10 of the Trojans’ 20 points. She made the team’s only two free throw attempts, and West Marshall (1-1, 0-1) connected on two 3s in the game.
