L-S girls continue dominance over HLV/TC

Class 1A No. 7 Hawks open SICL play with rout of Warriors

VICTOR — The Class 1A No. 7 Lynnville-Sully girls basketball team pitched a shutout through the first two quarters of its South Iowa Cedar League opener on Tuesday.

The Hawks stayed unbeaten and posted its 27th straight win over HLV/TC following a 59-11 triumph.

Lynnville-Sully, which has outscored its first three opponents this season by an average of 43 points, improved to 37-1 against the Warriors since 2008.

Seven players scored at least four points, and the Hawks shot 54.3 percent from the floor.

Isabelle Vos posted 12 points, three rebounds and two steals and Ava Brummel collected 10 points, four rebounds and two assists to lead the Hawks.

Brooke Harthoorn totaled 10 points, two assists and two steals, Aubrey Harthoorn finished with nine points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals and Kate Harthoorn chipped in six points, three assists and three steals.

The Harthoorn trio was 7-of-10 from 3-point range. Aubrey made all three of her attempts, while Kate and Brooke hit 2-of-3.

Breah Lowry posted six points, six assists and three steals, Brilynn Tice contributed three rebounds and three assists, Emma Parkinson secured two boards and Mandeesa Vos scored the first four points of her varsity career.

Lynnville-Sully (3-0, 1-0 in the conference) shot 7-of-10 from 3, made 2-of-3 from the free-throw line and turned the ball over 14 times while swiping 16 steals.

Erilea Kupka scored nine of the Warriors’ 11 points and Bryndal Jack grabbed five rebounds. HLV/TC (0-2, 0-1) turned the ball over 33 times, shot 18 percent from the floor and made 3-of-14 from 3.
