Twenty-four area gridders earn postseason honors in Class A District 6

Lynnville-Sully’s Mike Parkinson named Coach of the Year

Ben Squires

The Lynnville-Sully football team outscored opponents 233-58 during Class A District 6 this season.

And 16 Hawks were named to the all-district squad after a run to the league championship.

Dawson James

Senior Dawson James highlighted the squad from the area as he was named Defensive MVP. Senior Ben Squires was the Offensive Lineman MVP and Lynnville-Sully head football coach Mike Parkinson was recognized as the district’s coach of the year after guiding the Hawks to a perfect 6-0 record.

Colfax-Mingo did not win a game inside district play, but six Tigerhawks were named to the all-district squad, led by second-teamers Wyatt Carpenter, Camden Cunningham and Kyle Wood.

Gavin Fisk

Seniors Jack Bowlin, JD Richards, Wyatt Mathis, Michael Spooner, Landyn Fisk, James and Squires and junior Gavin Fisk were the first-team selections for Lynnville-Sully.

Seniors Connor Deal, Burt Johnson and Landyn Fisk, juniors Hunter Neleman and Cameyon James and freshman Henry Sharp were second-team selections and the honorable mention picks were juniors Brayden Wehrle and Trace Carlson and freshman Jaxon Merten.

Jack Bowlin

Carpenter was a second-teamer on offense and Cunningham and Wood both made the second team on defense for the Tigerhawks.

Colfax-Mingo junior Fisher Grove and sophomores Wyatt Jay and Lawrence Solasberry were the honorable mention selections.

Wyatt Mathis

Both area squads had a player who earned the Golden Award, which goes to players who would have been all-district selections had it not been for an injury. Those players were Lynnville-Sully sophomore Jace Johnson and Colfax-Mingo sophomore Chase Trotter.

All-district recognition is based on statistics inside district play only.

JD Richards

Gavin Fisk was a first-team running back after rushing for 503 yards, which ranked fifth in the district. His eight rushing touchdowns and 7.9 yards per carry both ranked third in the district and his 10 total touchdowns ranked fourth.

Gavin Fisk also grabbed four passes for 83 yards and two TDs.

Bowlin was a first-team wide receiver after ranking second in the district with 436 receiving yards. His 23 catches were second and four receiving TDs tied for second. Bowlin also grabbed two two-point conversions and rushed for six yards on his only carry.

Michael Spooner

While Squires led the offensive line group, Spooner also was a first-teamer and Neleman earned second-team recognition and Wehrle was an honorable mention pick.

The Hawks’ offense ranked third in the district with 30 touchdowns. The group also ranked third with 1,783 total yards and was fourth with 996 rushing yards.

Hunter Neleman

James headlined the Hawks’ defense. He was the district’s MVP after ranking first with 14.5 tackles and third with four sacks. He also ranked sixth with 39.5 tackles and pitched in one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a pick 6 that went for 69 yards.

Richards was a first-teamer at defensive back. He finished with seven tackles and one interception.

Landyn Fisk

Mathis earned first-team recognition at a defensive utility spot. He posted 17 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and tied for fifth in the district with three sacks.

Landyn Fisk was a first-teamer at punter and a second-team defensive back. He averaged 32.8 yards per punt on his 14 attempts.

Cameyon James

As a defensive back, Landyn Fisk contributed 10 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.

Cameyon James was a second-team defensive lineman and Sharp earned second-team honors at linebacker.

Henry Sharp

Cameyon James finished with seven tackles and three tackles for loss and Sharp totaled 21.5 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.

Deal was the second-team quarterback. He was 36-of-62 through the air and his 570 passing yards ranked third in the district. He also ranked tied for second with seven passing TDs, sixth with eight total TDs and ran for 31 yards and one score on 10 carries.

Connor Deal

Burt Johnson of Lynnville-Sully and Carpenter of Colfax-Mingo both were second-team picks as offensive utility players.

Burt Johnson finished with 67 rushing yards on six carries and 15 receiving yards on two catches, while Carpenter added 95 rushing yards on 27 carries, 85 receiving yards on seven catches and two total TDs.

Burt Johnson

Colfax-Mingo’s Wood and Cunningham both were second-teamers at linebacker.

Cunningham ranked second in the district with 45 tackles, led the district with three forced fumbles and added six tackles for loss.

Wood posted 27.5 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and tied for second in the district with two fumble recoveries.

Wyatt Carpenter

Carlson’s honorable mention recognition came as a defensive back, while Merten was the Hawks’ kicker. Carlson finished with seven tackles and one fumble recovery and Merten was 8-of-13 in PATs and booted two of his 24 kickoffs for touchbacks.

Grove totaled 25 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for the Tigerhawks. He made the team as a defensive utility player.

Camden Cunningham

Jay caught eight passes for 90 yards and one touchdown as C-M’s starting tight end and Solasberry was the team’s best offensive lineman.

Jace Johnson earned the Golden Award for L-S after registering 10 catches for 143 yards and four TDs and rushing for 28 yards on five carries.

Trotter was the Tigerhawks’ best skill position player before the injury. He gained 230 yards and scored three TDs on 27 carries and hauled in eight catches for 137 yards and another TD.
