Rawlins, Frehse earn honorable mention all-conference recognition

Isabelle Rawlins ranked fourth in the Little Hawkeye Conference in assists and Morgan Frehse was sixth in the league in kills.

But that wasn’t quite good enough to land them on the first or second team as both Cardinals were named honorable mention all-conference recently.

All-conference recognition is based on statistics inside conference play only.

Four of the seven LHC squads qualified for this year’s state volleyball tournament.

Pella reached the state semifinals in Class 4A, while DCG, Norwalk and Indianola (5A) all were eliminated in the opening round. The Indians and Mustangs were knocked out by the eventual champions in their class.

Rawlins’ 129 assists ranked fourth in the LHC, and she also finished with 12 kills, two blocks, five aces and 36 digs as Newton’s starting setter. She was 57-of-59 in serves.

Frehse was the Cardinals’ top hitter. She ranked sixth in the league with 61 kills and added 26 digs, three aces and two blocks. She was 41-of-44 in serves and had a kill efficiency of .200.
