State-ranked Pella downs Newton girls in LHC tennis action

Cardinals can’t keep up with Lady Dutch at Caldwell Park

PELLA — Sloan Brodersen, Camryn Andrew and Mackenzie Clark all took three games in one of their sets against opponents from the Class 1A No. 3 Pella girls tennis team on Thursday.

But the Cardinals were swept in all 11 matches during the 11-0 loss to their rivals at Caldwell Park during Little Hawkeye Conference action.

Andrew fell 6-3 in the first set of her match at No. 5 singles, and Brodersen and Clark lost 6-3 in their second sets at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Andrew and Ava Williams fell 6-3 in their first set at No. 3 doubles and Kenzly Brant and Haylie Milheiser lost 7-5 in their first set at No. 4 doubles.

Newton’s No. 1 singles player, Morgan Frehse, was not available for the meet because the Newton volleyball team also played that night.

The Cardinals fell to 1-5 and 1-3 in the conference, while the state-ranked Lady Dutch improved to 6-0 and 4-0 in the LHC.
